Shelburne Town Council Approves 2015-16 Operating Budget

Shelburne, NS – The Shelburne Town Council approved an operating budget totaling $3.69 million on April 14th, 2015. The approved residential tax rate of $2.04 per $100 of assessment and the approved commercial tax rate of $3.86 per $100 of assessment remain unchanged from last year. Sewer charges will be held at $198 per unit and the new solid waste charge is now fully implemented – covering 100% of solid waste services provided by the Town – increasing to $209 per unit for total budgeted revenues of $209,208. The Council has also approved an increase in the new low-income tax exemption program which was introduced in last year’s budget, with the minimum household income necessary to qualify for the program increasing to $25,000; the program provides up to $100 of tax relief to qualifying tax payers.

The Town of Shelburne is seeking proposals for the supply of a new tractor for the Public Works Department. This tractor will be used for roadside brush cutting and as a sidewalk plough in the winter months.
The following specifications are required:
- 4 Wheel Drive Cab with Heater/AC
- Front Loader with Skid Steer Style Q/A
- 3 sets Rear Remotes
- 3 Point Hitch
- Hydrostatic Drive (3 range)
- 62 inch min width (with option expandable to 65 inch or more with offset mower attachment depending on manufacture spec)
- Rear wheel weights/tires weighted for offset mower Agri Tires
- Minimum 33 PTO Horsepower

Last month, our government launched the Graduate to Opportunity program. This program offers employers like you the chance to hire recent graduates by providing salary support for the first two years of employment.
You qualify for this program if:
- You have fewer than 100 employees, or are a social enterprise, not-for-profit or registered charity
- You are willing to pay at least $30,000 annually. Government will pay 25 percent of the salary in year 1, and 12.5 per cent in Year 2
You can hire anyone who has completed a post-secondary program within the last year and will live and work in Nova Scotia.
